An Interview With Alyssa Wilson

RODHE SPORT Featured Athlete: Alyssa Wilson, Class of  2017

****Article written April 2016****

Not many adults can throw anything over 50’, let alone a shot put weighing 4kg. However, a high school Junior in New Jersey is doing just that, and she she continues to throw farther yet!

Alyssa Wilson is a Junior at Donovan Catholic School in Jackson, New Jersey. Even as a young athlete she has already seen lots of success, and is setting records, from her dedication to sport. Alyssa is a 2x All American, is the current 2016 National High School leader, and holds the second all-time U.S. high school indoor throw record at 54’11”. See a video of Alyssa’s throw here.

Using track as a conditioning tool for basketball, Alyssa just happened to give throwing a try, and, in her own words: “fell in love” with the sport. Alyssa’s advice to other athletes is a solid encouragement to follow their dreams, but that it is hard work that makes anything possible. She says “there are no limits except for gravity!”. Her commitment to being a world class thrower is a further example to young athletes everywhere that tough training will bring results. Through her diligence in training for throwing events, Alyssa has enjoyed the RODHE SPORT Shot Put Glove to allow her to train with heavier implements for more repetitions by protecting her fingers and hand from the added stress.

Even at her young age, Alyssa is a role model for female athletes in all sports. She would like to see females receive more publicity in the throwing events, and to bring awareness to the athleticism that elite throwing requires. Her sportsmanship, diligence, and enthusiasm for throwing certainly lay a strong foundation for inspiring other female athletes.
